Cold Store Wire Shelving

Our new range of commercial grade cold-store shelving is now available to buy online. This fantastic new product is suitable for use in below zero storage and adds to our comprehensive range of wire shelving units.

This type of shelving is an ideal solution for chilled or frozen food storage environments thanks to an anti-bacterial additive that helps fight bacteria for up to 10 years, a hard wearing resin coating also protects against corrosion.

Wire shelves encourage natural air circulation and resist the build up of dust and debris that can occur in a store room. Our cold-store shelves benefit from a very high load capacity of up to 300kg per shelf - exactly the same as our standard Chrome Shelving and the simple bolt-free design means provides quick and easy assembly.

Real World Stockrooms: Part 1

Friday, April 19, 2013
The first in our new series of posts starts with this glimpse into the inner workings of a popular multi-chain retailer's stockroom.

This retailer uses Longspan Racking to provide easily accessible heavy duty storage for their comprehensive range of goods. Longspan is ideally suited to storing heavier stock items thanks to its high shelf load capacities and wide spans.

The adjustability of the shelves has allowed shelf heights to be set to suit the stock profiles, this increases stock capacity by reducing the wasted space that occurs when shelf levels are set in a uniform manner.

The photo below shows how some racking bays leave a large gap between the floor and the first shelf to store small pallets and heavy boxes , whilst others make use of extra shelves. This combination of storage options is essential in creating practical and efficient stockrooms. Careful planning and design can ensure the solution is 'right first time' and capable of adapting to ever changing stock profiles and seasonal fluctuations.

The full ceiling height is utilised within this stockroom, the top shelf of the racking is used to store lighter boxes stacked until they are nearly touching the ceiling. This use of high level storage makes a big difference in the overall stock capacity of the room and the stock is easily accessed by staff with the aid of small step ladder.

Transporting goods in and out of the stockroom can become awkward and time consuming when dealing with heavy or bulky items, this retailer utilises heavy duty platform trucks to help move stock between goods-in, stock locations and the shop floor.

Keeping a stockroom tidy and organised is always going to be difficult when you have a large range of products on offer but it is essential that you have enough good quality racking that can cope with your existing and future stock requirements.

EZR's 6 Safe Manual Handling Tips

Monday, February 18, 2013

Taking care whilst moving large or heavy objects within the workplace can help reduce the chance of accidents and serious injuries occurring, here are our 6 top tips for safe manual handling:

  1. Safe Manual Handling TipsWhen lifting objects from ground level, always try to keep your back straight and use your leg muscles for the actual lifting action.
  2. Assess what needs to be lifted and where it needs to go. If you feel the load is too heavy/awkward or if the carrying distance is too long then seek extra help or make use of some manual handling equipment.
  3. When you need to lift items above shoulder height use an intermediary step to allow a safe change of grip.
  4. Keep the load close to you with the heaviest side closest to your body.
  5. Avoid twisting or leaning sideways, try to keep your shoulders and hips pointing in the same direction.
  6. Look at where you are going and be aware of your surroundings, pay close attention to other people moving around you and potential obstacles.

Mobile Shelving - A Blast From The Past!

Thursday, February 07, 2013

Classic Wooden Mobile ShelvingDuring a recent visit to a new client our survey team discovered this antique wooden mobile shelving system tucked away in the corner of a science prep room.

Despite being approximately 40 years old, this roller racking system is actually in perfect working order and still providing easy to use high density storage for a range of chemicals and classroom supplies.

Although the basic principles of mobile shelving may not have changed much over the years, the technology and features certainly have. New mobile systems can now be specified in a wide variety of styles complete with computer controlled electronic movement, rotating hand wheels, fully adjustable steel shelves and even decorative end panels.

Seeing such an old system in use perfectly demonstrates how choosing the right storage solution can pay dividends in the long run. We always encourage customers to plan ahead and purchase storage solutions with enough storage capacity to cope with future demands.

This client will benefit from even more storage space when their brand new EZR mobile shelving system is installed into a neighbouring room later this week.

Shelving Guide: Starter & Add-On Bays

Monday, January 14, 2013

The EZR shelving ranges encompass the starter and add-on bay principle to create much more cost-effective storage solutions when long runs of shelving are required. Many other systems just use full bays of shelving stood next to each other which is both time consuming and costly. Trimline add-on bays are not only easy to install but also approximately 25 to 30% cheaper than full starter bays - this can provide substantial savings on project costs, especially for larger installations.

Building a run of Trimline shelving is simplicity itself, start off by constructing a starter bay (no nuts or bolts to worry about) then add-on to this framework with more beams and end frames until your shelving run is complete. The diagram above shows a typical configuration of a run of 3 bays made from 1 x starter bay and 2 x add-ons, each shelf can be adjusted up or down in 25mm increments to suit the stock being stored.

Alcove shelving example

Another advantage of using the add-on bay system is the reduction in overall width thanks to there being 1 less frame to include. Often, areas like the alcove shown opposite can't be used efficiently for storage because two full bays of shelving would simply not fit in, our system can include shelving that uses all of the available width for maximum storage capacity.

All of our boltless shelving systems are available to buy online, if you have a specific requirement or would like to discuss your project with our advisors then please give us a call on 01993 779494 or email: mail@ezrshelving.com

The latest product to emerge from the EZR design department offers a whole new way to handle lateral file storage in the office environment.

Combining the well-proven Trimline boltless shelving system with a new heavy duty lateral filing beam has created a unique and flexible storage system capable of storing a wide variety of office documents, supplies and equipment.

The clever design of this new lateral file beam can also accept standard shelves allowing a truly flexible approach to storage in offices. The photo below shows a typical installation in an accountancy firm where thousands of documents are stored in lateral files with a small section retained for regular shelving.

Shelving units are available to cover the 2 most common lateral file sizes of 275 and 330mm (hook to hook). This cost-effective solution is the perfect alternative to metal office cabinets, offering a more practical way of storing high density office files.
