Delays For New £33m Newman RC College In Oldham7 September 2012 | Jon
In a letter to parents, Oldham council apologise for the delays saying: "The new College will be able to welcome children in Years 7 and 11 on Monday, September 17 at 8.55am – and then all pupils from Tuesday, September 18 at 8.55am." "This delay is because – despite continued monitoring and intervention – the building contractor, Balfour Beatty Construction, has not been able to meet the agreed completion date to enable Oldham Council to hand the buildings over to the College." "We all realise how frustrating this news will be and unreservedly apologise for the delay and inconvenience, which is beyond our control." ![]() The new state of the art college is built on the site of the former Radclyffe School and is one of a new breed of educational facilities designed around the needs of 21st century school children. Balfour Beatty, the company in charge of the project started work way back in November 2011. Work had been progressing well, but the decision to delay had to be taken when it was apparent the site would not be complete enough to allow pupils and staff to start the new term.
EZR's Andrew Musty who recently visited the site commented "Although there is still lots to do, the construction team are working round the clock to finish the project. The laptop charging cabinets were all delivered on time and are now full loaded with brand new laptop computers, I look forward to seeing them being used by the students when the term finally gets under way."
